Corals of the World, developed from the book of the same name, is in an advanced stage of production with the first stage due to go online this year (2012). It will have three main components.

Corals of the World will be free to all users. Contributions of photographs for possible inclusions in future versions, are welcome, as is information about species characters, distributions and abundances.

General information about corals and coral reefs including

  • Geological history, evolution, growth, diversity and distribution of reefs
  • Taxonomy, structure, reproduction and environmental physiology of corals

Coral ID

Wide ranging species-specific information including

  • Updated and expanded species pages
  • Global information about the diversity and conservation status of corals and reefs
  • An updated and expanded production of the Coral ID CDROM Key

Coral Geographic

The first public release of the widely used mapping program covering all species.

coral.aims.gov.au or sdmas.com/corals/species.php can be used as interim sources of information. However users should note that these are unedited technical productions which have not been updated or corrected. In particular the maps in coral.aims.gov.au have extensive computer generated errors and should not be used.
